BIOGRAPHY

Melbourne chaotic metal outfit The Last Martyr have gone from strength-to-strength since first unleashing their unique brand of metalcore, nu-metal and electro-fused dark rock. Comprising of Monica Strut (vocals), Ben Rogers (guitar), Ricky Andres (bass) and Vin Krishnan (drums), their 2021 single Hindsight, saw the band earn triple j rotation and Unearthed feature artist before rounding the year out with triple j’s Lochlan Watt selecting the tune as his favourite track uploaded to Unearthed that year.

The band followed swiftly with, Afterglow a hard-hitting and nostalgic bop about young love and reflection through rose-coloured glasses. The Last Martyr’s carefully crafted heavy and hooky sound found them a spot on Metal Injection's relaunched Slay At Home monthly series, where they performed a mini live stream set to thousands of viewers.

The four-piece’s blast-beat-led single Freaking Out was the final piece to drop from their EP, ‘Purgatory;’ once again produced by Lalic. The release was met with critical acclaim with NME declaring, “This five-track project is filled with gut-punch riffs, powerful vocals and propulsive blast beats,” and Hysteria Magazine gushing, “Hellishly good or heaven-sent, however you want to spin it, it doesn’t get more epic than Purgatory.”

2022 saw the release of single Sugar, a sweet and unhinged tune that speaks to the numbing effects of anti-depressants. The track was released on vinyl in February via Anti Vinyl Vinyl Club as part of a split with Adelaide’s Heartline, most variants selling out within a few weeks.

TLM dropped several stand-alone singles which garnered national and international radio play including on triple J and Triple M, reactions/reviews from Nik Nocturnal, Tom Williams (Stray From The Path) to name a few, as well as spots on several Spotify editorial playlists.

The last 18 months have seen The Last Martyr tour with hard rock heavyweights, Black Veil Brides (USA), Sunk Loto, Story Of The Year and Hanabie, appear at festivals like Unify Forever, Froth & Furry and BIGSOUND and embark on their first headline run of shows last November.

The band will celebrate the release of ‘The Nihilist’ with an east-coast tour this May that includes an all-ages show Frankston with Starve, headliners in Melbourne and Brisbane and appearance at a Linkin Park & System Of A Down Tribute Event in Sydney.
